California Dreamin!

California Dreamin
————-

First… Welcome Back to Brandon! He was on vacation all of last week.

As you can see, we are trying something new this week with a longer strip and continuing storyline. Think of it as a sort of celebration to the return of the World Poker Tour.

After a 2 month break the WPT is back in full swing over at the Bicycle Casino. It seems like everyone who is anyone is playing. Chip leader right at this moment is Masoud Pourhabib (say that 10 times fast) and our good friend “The Donkbuster” Joe Sebok is currently in 3rd. GO JOE!!

And yes… Jennifer Tilly is among them in 4th. ;)

A FINAL REMINDER for the Paul Hannum Charity Event tomorrow night. You can still donate to the Baby Hannum fund by clicking here.

Oh and before I forget. Erica Gayler is participating in the CIBC Run for the Cure. This is a Canadian breast cancer foundation. Her mother is a survivor and she will be running in honor of several people. Including my Aunt. Please help her reach her goal! Anything will help.

Thank you Eri!

I like the longer format, too! Any time there’s more space for storytelling, I’m all for it!

Yeah, the longer format is bad ass. I am really intrigued to see what comes about.
I loved the mention of Vince Papale.

Now I’m curiouse exactly what this try out is all about. I really have to get back up to speed on WPT stuff. I’m way behind.

  7. Frank Frisina

There really is no tryout… only in Charlie’s world. ;)

  8. Bobby Crosby

I thought the recent strip where he said “VEGAS, HERE I COME!” was clearly setting up a storyline about him going to Vegas right away, so I’m confused.

  9. babyblue

I think his dream is to go to Vegas…

  10. Frank Frisina

Between then and now… he went broke.

  11. DJ Coffman

Yeah, it makes sense to me. Maybe it takes time and planning to actually fulfill your dreams. I think… I could be a dumbass though.

  12. Bobby Crosby

It goes without saying that it’s the dream of all poker players to be a Vegas pro, but it seemed much more immediate than that to me when he said, “VEGAS!! HERE… I… COME!” And not going because he went broke doesn’t make much sense because he’s now raising the money to go to Los Angeles, which isn’t far from Vegas. So he’s apparently put aside his Vegas dream for his new dream of being a WPT reporter? Anyway, I could be a dumbass too.

  13. Adam

    hmmm…
Maybe his dream of reporting out weighs the every day poker dream you love and know? It’s Charlie’s life…let him live it! Gosh!

    =)

  14. Frank Frisina

or maybe… he came home after saying “VEGAS!! HERE… I… COME!” and realized he only had a bankroll of 300 bucks left. So he spent the night trying to turn that 300 into 3000… and lost it all. OR perhaps… reading about a once in a lifetime chance to get into the poker world.. was a little bit better than donking off in Vegas….. OR maybe… something came up between that comic and this one.. that changed the storyline a bit? I didn’t realize between each strip needed an explanation.

Just in case… You know that “Live on my bike” strip… he is riding his bike because he lost his license due to that speeding incident. Just to clear up any confusion.

  15. Bobby Crosby

It’s not that big of a deal. I was simply confused by him passionately declaring that he’s going to Vegas to dramatically end a comic and then not following up on that at all. I thought it was portrayed as a big enough statement that it required a follow up, but I misunderstood it, I guess.

  16. Frank Frisina

I can see your point. I had ideas for the comic to go one direction but at the last minute, plans changed. In the end it will all make sense.

That’s one of the things I love most about doing this comic. The ability to change or adapt from day to day.

  17. babyblue

    Great response Frank-
Just wondering who you are Bobby? Haven’t seen you in the forums…
Maybe you should start reading the comic from the begining-might help ya out.

    ;) Blue

  18. Bobby Crosby

I’ve read every strip, and my concerns weren’t addressed in the comic, so that wouldn’t have helped anyway. As Frank just said, he set up one thing but then changed the plan at the last minute, leaving me scratching my head. And apparently I was the only one scratching my head, so I guess I’m paying pretty close attention! Anyway, all I did was say that I was confused and explain why I was confused. Frank says it will all make sense in the end, so there’s no need to keep talk about it now, in my opinion.

    Oh….now I know who you are …lol
