Once you get comfortable with the blade, you do get a quality shave. It's kind of nice to go through the whole ritual of doing up the lather, stropping the blade, etc. It forces you to take a little 'me' time in the morning. Plus, it's green (no waste, no electricity) and economical. A decent blade will last a lifetime or more! Both of the blades I use are almost 100 years old and each cost me less than $20 each on ebay.
