Random Questions with Ali Nejad

Sorry for the lack of update on Wednesday. I spent a good part of the day in the hospital AGAIN. It was not fun. I feel alot better now but man… 24 hours ago I was hating life. I seem to have a very low potassium level and I need to make sure from now on I get enough of it. I really don’t eat right. The poker player diet seems to not be working out for me.

POKER NICKNAMES

I was 17 years old when I got my first tattoo. It reads “Bones” and is on my right bicep. Up until then I really never had a nickname. Then a few weeks later and after turning 18, I ended up spending a month in jail. To make a really long story short, I got into a lot of trouble when I was younger. Not too many people had faith in me and most when asked where they saw me in 5 years… probably would have said prison. I have come a long long way since those days.. Anyway… in jail is where the nickname stuck. Besides the obvious (being skinny) I was one of the best domino players in the pod and earned respect quickly. ;) Not that respect in there was hard to get… We were all in there for petty crimes. I was there for a laundry list of stuff but nothing really outrageous. I think I had 10 or so curfew tickets on top of a strong armed robbery. (friends stole some kids coat… and I was a block away)

Fast forward to about 7 years ago when I started using Franky Bones for my online tag. I am not sure how it morphed from Bones to Franky Bones but its all the same. As a poker player it was obvious what nickname I would use… but would it stick? I am not sure how the rest of you feel about it (your poker nickname) but for me it was very important. It didn’t necessarily have to be Franky Bones or some varient of it, I just didn’t want to be given something stupid.

When I met up with Joe Sebok in Vegas during the Harman event and was being introduced to Jeff Madsen, Gavin Smith, & Justin Shronk. The exchange happened exactly the way you see it. Except I think it was Shronk who asked me if I was the Frank Bones who won the freeroll. Gavin then suggested they call me “freeroll Franky”… which I would have been plenty happy with, when Sebok chimed in something like “Nah fellas… its Franky Bones” … Now for me, it was one of the coolest moments I have had since getting involved in poker. Here I was surrounded by some of the world’s greatest poker players…. being given my poker name. I don’t think I could have scripted it better.

Big thanks to Joe Sebok.

So what’s your poker name? Those that comment with their name will be entered into a random drawing for some cool prizes!

This is a great interview. Thanks to Ali for humoring us for a few minutes.

UPDATE SCHEDULE CHANGING

We are going to be going 2 days a week over on Poker Road now and removing 1 day a week from the LaB comic updates. Not quite sure which days are being designated but keep watch on the blog for details. We will still be doing 4 strips per week they will just now be evenly spread between the 2 sites. The one day LaB loses will be replaced by Random Questions with Matt Waldron and other projects.

What would you as the reader like to see? I was thinking Sunday nights will be for Sky’s The Limit and maybe Thursday for Livin’ On Poker Road. LaB would be updated Monday & Wed… or maybe Tuesday and Friday. Thoughts?

GRAND THEFT AUTO 4 & IRON MAN

So this week was HUGE for gamers and movie fans. I have really been waiting for gtaIV for a long long time and it has surpassed any expectations. If you like video games at all, YOU MUST go out and buy this game. If you don’t own an x-box 360 or PS3… GO BUY ONE! You will not be dispointed.

BTW.. My x-box gamer tag is Lifes A Bluff (with spaces) add me and maybe we can run over some pedestrians together sometime. If we get enough people we can start having game night.

Now how about Iron Man? I have been looking forward to this as well. Although, I refuse to battle the movie crowds… So I’ll take the nephew on Monday. I hope that it lives up to the hype. We seem to be hit and miss with Superhero movies these days…. with more misses than hits. But from the looks of the early reviews , it appears to be a great movie.

oh and speaking of movies… I still plan to see 21 and Deal despite the negative reviews. I think a LaB review of both movies is in order.

That’s it for now… Have a great weekend!

Frank

  1. Clive Barker (TheBugman2008)

My nickname is Thebugman2008 (or TheBugman200) dependent on the site. When I was younger I wore glasses with really thick lenses and people used to say I looked like a bug, so got called Bugboy, this then morphed to Bugman when I reached college. Also, being a huge CSI fan and Grissom being my favourite character it evolved into TheBugman and the 2008 is because this my first year playing poker properly.

  2. Blue

    hehe…I still like Iron Lung.

  3. hungerfan

hungerfan is the name I use everywhere but I have many nicknames. back in school it was Waldo (prob not hard to figure out why). some people call me Ed The Head (due to a noggin the size of an ostrich egg). brother-in-laws have dubbed me “Dozens” (for reason I won’t go into at this time) :)

hungerfan is what I picked years ago to show my support for my fav band and good friends, “The Hunger”. Pretty much the name I use when signing into live tournaments. Dan from Pokerati would always call me The Hunger Man but it does not flow off the tongue as well.

  4. RuntCake

Really? I was Waldo too. However, I don’t have a poker name outside of my online name and I don’t think those are the same.

How great is the improv in the Ali-wood

  5. Sim Antix

My nickname is Jesus or Ferguson cause I also look like Ted Nugent. Not a great story but there it is.

  6. Frank Frisina
