Random Questions with Howard Lederer

Another fine installment of Random Questions.

I have a pretty good Howard Lederer story…     Back in 2005, I had a chance to go to the big E3 gaming show.  Howard was there promoting the World Championship of Poker video game.   There was a huge gathering of people trying to get autographs and whatnot but there didn’t look like there was any order to it.    I decided to just step in and shake his hand.   At the same time I turn around and hand my camera off to the guy right behind me and ask him to take the picture.   He sorta smiled and nodded, took the shot and handed the camera back with a smirk.  “Here ya go buddy” he says.    I left sort of with the feeling that I might have cut in front of a few people.    As I get the film developed (it was a disposable camera) and look at the picture, I noticed something was off….

Haha… yeah he got me good.    I gotta say this is one of my favorite poker pics.   I admire the burn that was put on me.   So kudos to that random dork I met @ E3 that year.   You left me with a great story to tell.

Now don’t let the size difference fool ya.   Howard is standing on a 3-5 inch ledge.   I am 6 foot 8 so I think we are about the same height.

You know…  I learned how to play Texas Holdem by watching one of his videos years ago.   I really had no clue about poker other than what beats what.   I hated holdem but I was in Rite-Aid one day and passed by the DVD sitting on the shelf with a bunch of cards and chip sets.  It was only $9.99 (on clearance)  and I figured what the hell.   Now this was before I ever picked up a book so it was my first true lesson on the game.   Thanks to that video and Howard being the great teacher he is, I was hooked.   It was from that video everything else just snowballed.

Fast forward a few years and we just finished artwork that was commissioned by Howard and his wife Suzie for the Springs Preserve charity event.  Who would have thought that small moment in a drug store would have led me in this direction.  Never would I have ever thought that years after I had viewed content he created,  he would be viewing content that I helped create.   Funny how life works out sometimes.

I will always cite Howard Lederer as a major influance in my life.    So…Thank you HL.

Howard was a great interview. I love the pace on this one…if I could get them all at about this time limit and level, I’d be really happy.
