Life’s A Bluff brings you backstage and behind the curtain at the WSOP Final Table.
Hello again from the road LaB Faithful! Travelling Matt here again to bring you pictures and updates from the road. Watch this space during the WSOP final table for the best I can bring you from a ‘media eye view’ at the World Series of Poker Final Table.
I’ll try not to go into a coma from too many Jack Link’s Beef Steak Nuggets (hey…its free food) while I get video updates, comments and gossip from pros and celebs in attendance and pictures of the action.
Check out the discussion threads at PokerRoad and follow the hand for hand details at PokerNews. For instant pics and update details, check out my twitter feed over the next few days.
4:45 PM –
Akenhead eliminated pushing 33 into a thoughtful, but determined, Shaffel with 99 and the English will not find victory this day. PokerNews Report.

Sheffler and his kids, smiling even though Dad is out in 8th.
5:10 pm –
Kevin Shaffel eliminated when his AA is cracked by KK…well, quad kings held by Buchman. Bust out interview footage and details soon. Shaffel was a ‘grinder’ favorite to win, and despite bing 80-20…he did not make it out.

Doyle gets a cuddle from a fan.
6:25 — Starstruck
Phil Ivey has used the recent chip shift to apparently start making his move. He has popped up from the bottom and is now ahead of Schulman in 5th. I’m watching his eyes here and I can’t tell you how eerie it is. Its like a predator in a pen with some mildly dangerous prey.
I recorded interviews with Doyle Brunson on his new autobiography, with Chau Giang about the WSOP final table and the evolution of poker, with Layne Flack about the state of poker and what young people have to just LIVE through to become great or even successful, and with a man who has possibly the most interesting name ever Aubrey Archangel, of the IAVA (Iraq Afghanistan Veterans Association) about his amazing organization.

Media has begun to call him Darvin 'Gump'
10 pm — WTF?!? This last break say Darvin Moon make two rather…unconventional plays and Steven Begleiter call off a ton of chips to Saout with middle pair no kicker, was ahead but not really to two overs and a flush draw. Flush got there. Since then, I’ve been talking to the pros railing the Bluff Magazine live feed and on the ME rail…quite a ton of star power here, though most made a quick exit…

How could you do that to them Darvin?
12:30 am –
Superman met his kryptonite in the form of a logger from Eastern Maryland when Moon made AQ > AK and sent the world’s best to the rail. Ivey…media shy or in shock over prop bets lost that could easily equal his actual winning…stood up press outside of the arena and did not do an exit interview. Edit: Turns out he just wanted to go play 2k/4k on FTP…seriously.

The elder statesman induct Mike Sexton into the Poker HoF
8pm — (yes, out of order, deal with it.) The only person to get enough votes to get into the Poker Hall of Fame, Mike Sexton, received his induction during a 2 hour dinner break and then was recognized right before play began. He was joined by fellow HoF members including Billy Baxter, Doyle Brunson, Binion, Helmuth, and Cloutier. Mike looked exstatic and it is this writer’s opinion that very few out there could even hold a candle to Mike’s bid for the Hall. Way to go Mr. Sexton, you are the Ambassador of Poker.

Came out happy with $2.5mil but disapointed with not winning.
3:15am – Hand 236 – Shulman will not need to find a convenient trash can for the WSOP ME bracelet. Even though he later retracted his controversial statement, many wondered what kind of statement the younger CardPlayer Exec would handle things if he won the title. Not a worry now as Saout outraced Shulman’s pocket sevens with A9o and Jeff had to settle for a little over 2.5 million to go home with.

Buchman goes bye bye
5:10 am – hand 271 – Buchman falls from grace. After recently having the chip lead a series of critical hands put Buchman in trouble and a double race with Darvin Moon (the winner being the underdog each time) Buchman hits the rail and we are down to 4.

WSOP ME Championship Bracelet
5:35am - Quack-Quack Waddle-Waddle. Cada hits another two outter to crush and overpair when he fourbets all in with 22. Saout is crushed down to less just above half the chips of both Moon and the new chipleader Cada.
5:55 am — BOOM!! (Now we can go to bed.) Cada and Saout square off of in a race for the rest of the Frenchman’s chips and Cada’s AKo outruns the 88 of Antoine with a King-ball on the river and we are now heads up…or will be in a couple of days. What will I do till then huh?
Faces in the crowd: Oh, some of my favorite things…the people that make up the game. Tons more on my Flickr Page.
