Taj VS Borgata

———–

This is our first installment of ‘Poker Room Rumble’ (that is a working title.. I just made up now) where Matt will place various poker rooms head to head, giving reviews of each and then calling a winner.

Matt Waldron is very well traveled and has played in poker rooms all over the world. I think you all will enjoy his adventures.

And for those that haven’t seen it yet, check out the articles section again. It has been completely reworked and all our past interviews/articles are there in nice orderly fashion. :) Enjoy!

WELCOME - Christal Ashley!

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

I want everyone to welcome Christal Ashley to the site. She is going to be writing for us and sharing her stories from the felt.

A short bio;

Name: Christal Ashley
Age: 26
Location: Austin, TX
Hometown: Lancaster, PA
Favorite Hand: 4-2 suited
Favorite Player: Daniel Negreanu
Favorite Online Poker Room: Poker Stars

I have been playing poker for about 5 years. I had always taken it as a game I loved and made a bit of money with. Then, in 2006, I played in the Ladies Event of the World Series of Poker. It was an incredible experience. Being in that room with pros and the hopeful alike was awesome. I ended up placing 157th out of 1128 women. I felt this was a very strong finish for my first major tournament, even though I didn’t make the money. I actually outlasted Jennifer Tilly. So, from the point I got home I was determined to better my game and try to go professional.

I still work the old 9 to 5, but I play poker at every chance. In 2007, I will be traveling to several tournaments around the country, playing mostly smaller buy-in events.

I guess I have been playing poker for about 4 years now, I pride myself in knowing that I was one of the last few people who can be considered pre-moneymaker. I am currently in my last semester (Thank the Lord) at LeTourneau University; (www.letu.edu) where I am majoring in finance. I’m your typical college student; I’m just a simple, nice guy who lives off ramen noodles and scrapes together enough money each week to play in our game here on campus.

I’m fairly active on Myspace, I keep my blog updated fairly regularly but I don’t cover poker there to much, mainly just stuff about my life, the random thoughts I have, and the songs I write. I guess I’m not your typical card player, I really like to listen to country when I play, I really don’t like playing online, even though I do when I have enough money; I am pretty quiet in real life but I am super aggressive at the table. I am a typical college student in that I am perpetually broke, so if you feel like donating send me something on full tilt.

If you really want to get to know me, ask me questions by sending me an email at jacobingalls@gmail.com or by posting something in the forums.

WELCOME - Matthew Hochban

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

Sorry for the late post today… I was hoping to be able to announce something new to the site but that will have to wait.

Regardless, check tomorrow and Friday because there are still a few new column writers left to debut and some other stuff to intro.

TODAY THOUGH, we welcome Matthew Hochban to the site. Matt brings an international flavor to LaB, hailing from the great white north. ;)

Favorite Player: Barry Greenstein
Favorite Online Poker Rooms: Poker Stars and Full Tilt

I’ve been playing cards for as long as I can remember. My grandfather taught me draw and stud poker when I was just 5 years old. My cousins, my brother, and I were all hooked from that point on and we played all the time at my grandfather’s house every Sunday. I didn’t get introduced to Hold Em until much later in life, right after I turned 18. Needless to say, it has been a bumpy ride, but I can feel like I can hold my own now. I keep studying the game and reflecting upon previous hands I’ve played(whether I won or lost them). I’m currently a dealer at the local casino. It’s never dull, great pay, and I enjoy it wholeheartedly. I much prefer cash games to tournaments, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the odd freezeout here and there.

Matthew’s first article Omaha:Holdem on Steroids.

Jacob Ingalls also has a new article up. Getting Started: Playing Pre-Flop Omaha.

Again check back tomorrow.

WELCOME - Cary Pall

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

Another writer joins LaB. Welcome Cary Pall to the site. Cary has been an active contributor to the forums for quite a while and we are glad to have him.

Name: Cary Pall
Age: 25
Location: Mckeesport, PA
Hometown: Greenville, SC
Fav. Hand: Kd 4d
Fav. Player: Ted Forrest
Fav. Online Poker Site: Poker Stars

My name is Cary Pall and I’m 25 years old. I graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2004 with a degree in Fine Arts. I moved to Pittsburgh, PA in late 2004 to manage a small Film Production Studio. After the owners of the company split ways, I began playing poker full time in the summer of 2005. I’ve been playing poker both live and online as my sole source of income for over a year and a half. I play all variations of poker, but I specialize in NL holdem tournaments and Omaha/Stud Eight or Better cash games. I have an infinite love for the game of poker and several other games including chess, gin rummy, darts, and other games of skill and chance. I learned poker at an early age and have played for money since I was eight years old. Right now I live the bachelor’s life and try to enjoy my life away from cards with family and friends. I also am a huge fan of the cinema, music, art and politics. As much as I try to maintain a normal life, poker is still on my every waking thought. I look forward to being part of Life’s A Bluff!

Cary’s first article is No Limit Tournament Strategy Part I: Sit N Go Tournaments

Be sure to check out all the articles. We are adding new ones all the time.
