Annie Duke – the REAL celebrity apprentice

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Anyone who saw the farce that was the Celebrity Apprentice last night, witnessed Annie Duke get robbed blind.   There really is no other word for it.  She was robbed and Trump is a genius.   I can’t help but think there had to be some backstage politics going on because there is no way Joan Rivers played the game better than Annie.   I think Trump knew that Joan would play better in the media and he is all about the money.   Joan is known all over the world.  Outside the show and the poker world, nobody knows who Annie is.   Joan is going to be all over the networks the next few weeks getting interviews that Annie might have been passed up on.   It’s brilliant for Trump and his sham of a show.   Great business sense I guess..

That has to be the reason… Otherwise it just defies logic.   I understand they had “criteria”, but what happened with the designers sunk Annie.  And Trump never addressed it.  They allowed it to look like Annie had made it all up.  I thought for sure Trump would say something, or at the very least take it into consideration.   Is it just me?   Or was Annie completely correct about the sabotage of the planners?   It was obvious to all of us here watching.   Why even give them event planners if they weren’t going to be penalized for not using them.   Trump never said anything about using their own people….  Then again, he never said they couldn’t.

Now going back I think Annie made some huge mistakes.   First thing… She took it personal.   Everything that made her a great game player up to that point was thrown out the window.  She let Joan get under her skin and it showed.     Her picks at the start were pretty nuts.   I knew she would pick Brandy first, but I was torn on whether or not she should have picked Melissa.   Would Melissa have just sabotaged or would she have been professional?  I tend to think she would have been professional and by picking her second would have thrown the obvious plan all out of wack.

Picking Tom Green and Rodman was just dumb.   Both are idiots and she wasted 2 people for the entire day.   When Tom started video taping off the computer screen my jaw dropped.     Since Herschel Walker was Joan’s second pick,  Annie should have picked Melissa.   Joan might have been throw for a loop and I have no doubt Rodman would have been her 2nd pick.  She and him have a cute little relationship and it just seems like the kind of reactionary move one might make after their grand “plan” was interrupted.   Annie then could have picked Clint.   I just think he would have worked harder for Annie than he did for Joan.   He had been on the end of Joan’s wrath many times and I think he sees her for what she is.   Joan then would have been left with the mental midget and would have never been able to control him like Annie did.

The edge for the event itself clearly went to Joan.   Her use of the Kodak moment and ordinary people was brilliant.   When it came down for those attending to give their opinions, it was obvious that Joan’s guests would have a better time.   The Kodak rep also had the wow look on his face when he walked through the big frame.    They really did capture the essence of what Kodak likes to portray.    That said though I cannot ignore the advantage she had after the event planner fiasco.   Had Joan’s assigned designer stuck around, it would have been totally different.

But the fix was in and it probably wouldn’t have mattered.  Annie was going to lose no matter what.   I guess the bright side is, Joan’s charity did look like it could use the money a little more than Refugees International (RI).   I am pretty sure RI takes in millions a year.   Either way both charities should benefit greatly from all the exposure.   In the end that IS what it was all about….. right?

I am just sorry I wasted 2 1/2 hours of my life.  Even with DVR , fast forwarding all the commercials and that moron Jim Cramer, it was still 2 hours and 29 mins I wish I could get back.

(EDIT) 4:40pm –
Word on the Internets is,  the show was obviously fixed from the start.   “Celebrity Apprentice exec producer Mark Burnett is also exec producing a show starting in Aug, starring JOAN RIVERS.”    It also turns out, “Donald Trump’s sister-in-law (Blaine Trump) is a vice-chair on the board of Joan’s charity.”

- Thanks to @BJNemeth & @JoeUgly for the fact finding.

(EDIT) 6:09pm -  Not that it wasn’t already apparent to those with a brain watching, but event planner David Tutera tells Barbara Walters today on Sirius Radio that Annie Duke is telling the truth, and calls Joan Rivers a monster.   He also says that producers for Celeb Apprentice specifically told him before hand NOT to give Joan any ideas.   RIGGED.  Thanks to @wickedchops for this info.
