Yes we can!

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Just one more time……

Tomorrow is Election Day!! GET OUT AND VOTE!

If you live in California make sure you vote NO on Prop 8! & NO on Prop 4!

For those of you in South Dakota…. VOTE NO on Measure 11!

In Colorado, VOTE NO ON 48!

Those are the morality legislation proposals that I am aware of but I am sure there are more…. Please make sure you vote NO on anything that restricts freedom and/or personal choice. Government has no place telling YOU what you can or cannot do with your own body.

GET OUT AND VOTE!

Tomorrow we make history… one way or another. I have never been more proud to be an American than I am today.

So here is for a Obama / Biden & a Democratic House and Senate!

RIP Madelyn Dunham

Barack Obama’s grandmother Madelyn Dunham passed away today. She was 86.

We here at LaB send the Obama family our thoughts and condolences. She was an extraordinary woman.
…..
..
Thank you Madelyn.

Gay Marriage

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

It seems as if the hot topic these days is Gay marriage and the recent passing of California’s Prop h8te.  In an election where we have seen such amazing hopeful change, to have discrimination AND removal of EQUAL rights at the same time, is sad.  I just don’t understand what the big deal is.  How is this not a violation of civil rights?  Proponents can say all day long “the people have spoke” but the majority should never be in the position to take away rights of a minority or deny same rights as all.

There was a time in this country when the majority wanted slavery, no vote for women, no vote for blacks, segregation, interracial marriage, & a slew of other civil rights issues.    At the time Barack Obama was born… it was illegal in 16 (or 19) states for interracial couples to marry!!   I even think it’s safe to say that if you were to put segregation up for vote, some southern states would pass it.    Would that be right?

The main beef from the other side is based on obscure outdated religious ideals.  And this country was founded on the principles of separation of church and state.  We are a country based on the rule of LAW not religion.   So outside the fairy tale arguments there are no legitimate reasons why 2 loving people shouldn’t be allow to strengthen their family.  Isn’t after all that what marriage is all about?

I think prop h8te will do more for gay rights than anything to date.  Now that it has been seen for what it is, a civil rights issue, they cannot be denied.  You cannot amend a Constitution that denies a minority.  It’s pretty black & white.   But then again I only stayed at a holiday inn express once, so what do I know.

I know I have plenty more to say about this subject, and recently posted a detailed opinion on my personal blog.   If this is a topic that interests (bothers) you, please go over there and check it out.  I am very interested in hearing the thoughts of the LaB readers.  And even more so, those who are against it.   (*Mormons and other religious wackos are very welcome.)

There is also a poll to the right. Vote.

So the question is, Why are you personally against gay marriage?  (and its so called “redefining”)   What about it is a problem (big deal)?   I await your thoughtful and intelligent responses.

Please read my blog post and comment over there.
